Ellis Park

These two words have become familiar to every soccer / football fan across the globe. Famous Ellis Park Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa, the venue for the opening and closing of World Cup 2010 and some of the games during the month long tournament. But its history reaches much  further in the past...

I'm not South African and never been there to South Africa either. But pictures, especially moving pictures,  speak volumes. Check these short videos taken at the same venue - the first in 1985 during apartheid times (the charity concert in aid of Operation Hunger with political subtexts against the apartheid regime. Then Rolling Stones concert in 1995, then years later, Lucky Dube Concert in the same place, and now, fifteen years after that, the World Cup 2010, uniting people all over the world at the same venue that once separated them, under one flag and one national anthem (by the way, very similar to Tanzanian anthem, but bit slower). You draw the conclusions...
